These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of our website and the purchase of products from us. Please read them carefully before placing an order. By placing an order with us, you agree to be bound by these Terms.
We are Stripey Apron, a sole trader based at Little Plummers, Plummers Lane, Luton, England, LU2 9PP, United Kingdom ("we", "us", "our"). You can contact us by email at oliver.jay@stripeyapron.com.
We are a small, independent business specialising in wild venison. Some of the arrangements in these Terms — for example our weekly preparation cycle, our delivery flexibility, and our handling of stock — reflect the way a small producer of fresh, wild game necessarily operates.
1. About these Terms
In these Terms, "you" and "your" mean the person placing an order with us or using our website. These Terms apply to all orders placed through our website and to any orders you place with us by phone or email.
We may update these Terms from time to time (see "Changes to these Terms" below). The version that applies to your order is the version in force at the time you place it.
2. Our products
We sell raw wild venison, including cuts, sausages and burgers. Our products are predominantly supplied freshly frozen. If you would prefer a chilled delivery, please contact us before ordering and we may be able to arrange this as a special order.
Allergens. Some of our products contain allergens. Allergen information is provided on the product labels. It is your responsibility to check the labelling and product information before consuming our products, particularly if you or anyone you are catering for has a food allergy or intolerance.
Weights are approximate. Because our products are wild game cut to order by hand by our master butcher, the actual weight of a cut may differ slightly from the weight stated on our website. We apply a tolerance of 10%. We will not provide a refund for weight variations that fall within this 10% tolerance. If the actual weight you receive is more than 10% below the stated weight, we will refund you the value of the shortfall that falls beyond the 10% tolerance. For example, if a cut is described as 1kg and you receive 850g, the first 100g (10%) is within tolerance, and we will refund the value of the remaining 50g shortfall.
Wild stock may vary. Because we work with wild venison, our stock can be variable and unpredictable, and we cannot always guarantee availability. We reserve the right to change or amend your order, or to be unable to fulfil all or part of it. Where this affects your order, we will give you notice and refund you for any item we are unable to supply.
Product images and descriptions are provided as a guide. Natural products like ours vary in appearance, size and colour.
3. Eligibility and accounts
To place an order you must be at least 18 years old and able to enter into a legally binding contract.
You may create an account to use certain features, including subscriptions. If you create an account, you agree to provide accurate and up-to-date information, to keep your login details confidential, and to be responsible for all activity under your account. Please contact us promptly if you believe your account has been used without your authorisation.
We may suspend or close an account where we reasonably believe it has been used in breach of these Terms, fraudulently, or unlawfully.
4. Orders and how a contract is formed
Our minimum order value is £50.
You can place an order through our website, or by contacting us by phone or email. The same Terms apply however you order.
A binding contract between you and us is formed when you place your order. This is subject to our right to change, amend, or be unable to fulfil all or part of your order where our wild stock requires it (see section 2), and to our right to cancel an order in the limited circumstances set out in these Terms (for example, an obvious pricing or product error, or where we reasonably suspect fraud or misuse). If we cancel your order or any part of it, we will refund you for the affected items.
5. Prices and payment
All prices are shown in pounds sterling and are inclusive of VAT (where applicable). Prices are exclusive of delivery charges, which are shown separately at checkout.
Payment is taken in full at checkout. We accept the payment methods made available through our Shopify checkout, including debit and credit card, Apple Pay, and Klarna. Where you pay using Klarna, your payment is handled by Klarna under its own terms and conditions.
We take care to ensure prices are correct, but errors can occur. If we discover an error in the price of items you have ordered, we will let you know and give you the option to continue at the correct price or cancel the order.
6. Discount codes, promotions and gift cards
From time to time we may offer discount codes, promotions or gift cards. The following rules apply:
- Unless we state otherwise, only one discount code may be used per order, codes cannot be combined with other offers, and codes cannot be applied retrospectively to orders already placed.
- Discount codes and promotions may be subject to conditions such as a minimum spend, eligibility requirements, or an expiry date.
- Discount codes and promotions have no cash value and cannot be exchanged for cash.
- We reserve the right to withdraw, amend, suspend or cancel any discount code, promotion or offer at any time and without notice.
- We may decline, cancel or reverse a discount, promotion or order where we reasonably believe it is being misused, has been obtained fraudulently, or has been applied in error.
- Gift cards may be redeemed against orders on our website up to their balance, are non-refundable, cannot be exchanged for cash, and may be subject to an expiry date shown at the time of purchase. We are not responsible for gift cards that are lost, stolen, or used without your authorisation.
7. Delivery
Where we deliver. We deliver to UK mainland addresses only. If you would like to receive an order elsewhere, please contact us and we may be able to organise something for you.
Our delivery cycle. We are a small business and work to a weekly cycle. We typically pack on Tuesdays and dispatch from then, though other dispatch and delivery dates do sometimes occur. Because of this, your delivery time depends on when in the cycle you order — for example, if you order on a Wednesday, dispatch will usually not be until the following Tuesday. In all cases, you will receive your order no more than 8 days after placing it, unless we have agreed otherwise with you.
Weekend delivery. Weekend delivery may be available for an additional charge, selectable at checkout where offered.
Delivery charges. We charge a flat delivery rate, shown at checkout. Please be aware that we may increase delivery charges during particularly busy periods such as the Christmas period.
Carriers. We usually deliver using DPD, but we may use our own drivers or alternative couriers where we choose to.
Packaging and partial thawing. Our products are packed frozen using wool insulation and gel ice packs designed to keep the contents frozen for up to 36 hours in transit. Because delivery times can vary, it is normal and expected that, on arrival, the ice packs may no longer be frozen and the products may have partially thawed. Provided the products are still cold and contain ice crystals (in other words, they have not fully thawed to room temperature), they remain safe to refreeze and use, although there may be a slight reduction in quality or texture. You do not need to contact us about partial thawing of this kind. Please only contact us if, on arrival, the products have fully thawed and are warm, or otherwise appear spoiled.
Safe place and delivery instructions. Because we ship frozen goods that should not sit in a depot, we instruct our courier to leave your parcel in the safe place you specify and not to return it to the depot. You must therefore provide a suitable, secure safe place when you order. If you do not provide a safe place, or the safe place you provide is not suitable or secure, we cannot guarantee a successful delivery and we are not responsible for any resulting loss or spoilage.
When responsibility passes to you. Once your parcel has been delivered to your specified safe place, or handed to you or someone at your address, responsibility for it passes to you. We are not responsible for any loss, theft, damage or deterioration that occurs after that point.
Delivery problems. If there is any problem with your delivery, you must contact us within 24 hours of delivery so that we can look into it.
8. Changing or cancelling your order
You may cancel your order at any time before it is dispatched, and in any event no later than 24 hours after placing it, whichever is earlier. To cancel, please contact us by email. Once we have sent you a dispatch confirmation email, or once 24 hours have passed since you placed your order (whichever happens first), your order can no longer be cancelled, because we prepare fresh, made-to-order products promptly.
No change-of-mind returns. Our products are perishable food items prepared and cut to order. For this reason, the usual 14-day "change of mind" cancellation right that applies to many online purchases does not apply to our products, and we do not accept returns or offer refunds simply because you have changed your mind. This does not affect your legal rights if something is wrong with your order (see section 9).
9. If something is wrong with your order
If any item arrives faulty, fully spoiled, incorrect, or not as described, please contact us within 24 hours of delivery, with photographs where possible, so that we can put things right.
Any refund or replacement we offer in respect of a goodwill or change-of-mind situation is provided entirely at our discretion — so please just get in touch and we will do our best to resolve things fairly.
Your legal rights. As a consumer, you have legal rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, including that the goods we supply must be of satisfactory quality, fit for their purpose, and as described. Nothing in these Terms affects those legal rights. Where an item is genuinely faulty, unsafe, or not as described, you are entitled to the remedies provided by law, regardless of our discretionary policy above. For more information about your rights, you can contact Citizens Advice.
10. Subscriptions
We offer subscriptions for recurring deliveries.
Choosing your cycle. You can choose how often you receive deliveries — for example weekly, every other week (bi-weekly), or monthly.
Managing and cancelling your subscription. You can manage your subscription — including changing your order, changing your delivery frequency, or cancelling — at any time through your account on our website. Changes and cancellations must be made by 11:00pm, five days before your next order is due to arrive. Changes made after that cut-off will take effect from the following delivery.
Auto-renewal. Subscriptions continue and renew automatically until you cancel them.
Failed payments. If a subscription payment fails, we will notify you, and you will need to put it right as soon as possible. We will not be able to make further deliveries on your subscription until the payment has been resolved.
Changes to subscription prices and terms. As a small business, our prices and the benefits attached to subscriptions may change over time, and subscriptions are subject to such changes. For example, if we offer a benefit such as a discount on every tenth order, we may change or withdraw that benefit. Where a change affects you, we will make the change clear.
11. Food safety, storage and cooking
Once your order has been delivered to you correctly, it is your responsibility to store and handle it safely. In particular:
-
Keep our products frozen (or, for any chilled special order, refrigerated) and use them in accordance with any labelling and storage guidance provided.
-
Cook our products thoroughly before eating.
Please also check the allergen information on the product labels before consuming our products (see section 2).
We are not responsible for any issue arising from a failure to store, handle, or cook our products properly after they have been correctly delivered to you.
12. Reviews, testimonials and user content
We value feedback from our customers. By submitting a review, testimonial, photograph, video, or other content to us or about us, you grant us permission to use and display that content on our website and in our marketing. Where content features an identifiable person, we will only publish it where we have appropriate permission, and we will stop using it on reasonable request.
13. Intellectual property
All content on our website — including our brand name, logo, text, product descriptions, photographs, graphics, and design — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, reproduce, distribute, or use any of our content for commercial purposes without our prior written permission. You may view and use the website for your own personal, non-commercial use in order to place orders with us.
14. Our liability
We accept no liability in relation to representation, including unforeseeable losses, and losses to a business (loss of reputation, profits, trade or trade opportunities).
Subject to the paragraph above, our entire liability under these terms and conditions will not exceed the purchase price of the products in question.
We shall not be liable for any delay or failure in the performance of our obligations due to events beyond our reasonable control.
You are not entitled to assign, sub-license or otherwise transfer any of your rights under these terms and conditions.
These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
If any of the provisions in these terms and conditions are found to be invalid by a court having jurisdiction, then the invalidity of that provision will not affect the validity of any other provisions within these terms and conditions.
15. Events outside our control
We are not responsible for any delay or failure to perform our obligations that is caused by events outside our reasonable control — for example, extreme weather, supply or stock shortages, courier failures, illness, or other circumstances we could not reasonably have avoided. If such an event occurs, we will contact you as soon as we can and will work with you to arrange a new delivery or, where appropriate, a refund for any affected items.
16. Complaints
We want you to be happy with your order. If you have a complaint, please contact us by email at oliver.jay@stripeyapron.com and we will do our best to resolve it promptly.
17. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time, for example to reflect changes in how we operate, in our products, or in the law. The version that applies to your order is the version published on our website at the time you place that order. We encourage you to review these Terms before ordering.
18. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms, and any dispute arising out of or in connection with them or your order, are governed by the law of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales. If you live in another part of the UK, you may also bring proceedings in your own jurisdiction.
